Social Networking news and information

Groups are what the social sites can thank for inspiration.  They've been around since the infancy of the web and the bonds made in groups are powerful, much more so than those made on MySpace, for the most part.

Some of my groups:

• LinkedIN Bloggers - moderate traffic
  Am CoMod of this group along with Des Walsh, Dave Taylor, Dennis McDonald and Sarah Lewis
  
• Blogjolt - moderate traffic
  eMom's blogjolt is a way to garner links/traffic to your blog organically, but purposefully.  It's purposeful networking and lots of gabbing about blogging.
  
• Podcasting - high traffic
  Passionate podcasters dishing about their profession.  A few big names here too.  Caveat, things get volatile quickly.  Don't apply w/o thick skin.
• Videoblogging - extremely high traffic
  Fun and gabby, vloggers will dish and argue about just about anything.  There are also some big names here.  Fun list and very informative.
  
• Podcast Marketing - low traffic
  
• Problogwriters - moderate traffic
  My own list for bloggers who want to earn money blogging or already do.  It's an offshoot of The Problogwriters Forums.
  
• Adwords Support
• (5 private groups)
• 6 inactive groups - haven't unsubbed because I'm hoping they'll restart

One caveat:  While I'm sure you get a healthy stream of subscribers via the Yahoo/Google Groups Directories, I've NEVER even meandered through there.  Everytime I have signed up for a group it has been because I saw the promotion button on the page or via word of mouth (ie a passionate recommendation from a current member). 

If you have a group and you want to grow it, place your signup link prominently on your homepage to ensure that your own current passionate users will sign up and start spreading the word.
