Social Networking Etiquette
I'm always surprised that there isn't a social networking etiquette course out there (enterprising entrepreneurs, listen up).  I dream of a day when people who communicate online can go through some sort of charm school to teach them how to talk to people via the third screen.

If you are sitting here reading this thinking, "hey, I could do that", then please let me know.  I have some ideas I'd like you to add to your curriculum:

IM
  • Don't type faster than 100 wpm.
  • Don't type more than 1 para PLEASE.
  • Don't type in all caps.
  • Don't expect an immediate response, especially if this your first IM contact with said person.
  • Don't use a childish IM-name if you are trying to get a blogger/journalist to respect what you are doing (hawtsxbdy would be an example of a bad name to pitch blogger's with)
  • Oh, and don't ask said person for a link, a dollar or a cyber if the above contact situation exists.

Email
  • Don't NOT sign your emails if we don't know each other.
  • Don't NOT punctuate your emails or capitalize them if you want to be taken seriously.
  • Don't expect immediate answer.
  • Give respect and it shall be given back to you.

Comments
  • Talk like you're talking to someone's face.  I know you say you would 'say it to their face', but NO you wouldn't so don't do it here.  I call that peeing in my comments and I just might flush you if you do.
  • Don't add more than the link in the section that says "URL". Anything more seems kinda car salesman-ish (especially if it's a link to your site).
There are so many more, but I'm fatigued just thinking about these.  If someone does want to arrange a Social Networking etiquette class, do ping me (recognizing the above qualifiers).  I'd love to help you design a badge for MySpace users.  ;)
