YouTube in the UK
Yes, YouTube was purchased by Google.  You've heard about it.  I'm not going to bore you with another article announcing it.  If you don't know anything about it, I wrote on it here, and so did these people:

Associated Press, The Universal Desktop, TechCrunch, rev2.org, SeekingAlpha Internet Stocks, Susan Mernit's Blog, MarketWatch, VentureBeat, Bloomberg, Business Filter, Virtual Economics, Things That, Silicon Valley Watcher, Rodrigo A. Sepúlveda SchulzRyan Stewart, Bloggers Blog, Elliott Back, Andy Beal's Marketing Pilgrim, Slashdot, Download Squad and Niall Kennedy's Weblog

And, I will respect you enough not to list the rest of the sources I found, LOL  Suffice it to say, it got a great deal of coverage.  If you want to read EVERYTHING from influential bloggers, take a look at TechMeme's permalink here.

YouTube's UK Growth
YouTube has seen significant growth in the UK, especially when compared to Google Video.  See the chart from The UK Telegraph:

UK Growth on YouTube is Strong

Google launched its own video-sharing site in Europe this year but its UK audience grew only 54pc from 1.1m to 1.6m unique users. UK users of Google search rose 3pc to 19.4m. YouTube was visited by 16pc of Britons online in August 2006 compared with 6pc for Google Video and 72pc for Google search. The UK Telegraph via Micro Persuasion

As you can see, while more ad real estate was a factor in the YouTube purchase, eyeballs were a primary focus.  Yes, I understand the UK stats are for the UK, but they are, indeed, representative of US stats as well.

YouTube has a wide lead on any other video site here, just ask Google Video.

Thanks for this article! There's something interesting I've discovered about YouTube as a modest addition to your information that I don't think a lot of people know about. It has to do with adding links to the description box of your videos. It's something I realized about a year ago and have had a lot of success with. I think your readers would benefit from this information, but I can't post the article here for copyright reasons. You can find more information and actual YouTube examples at the following link:
