You know what, Tony Hung knows some thing (which I think I know too) that Twitter Is Good For Meeting People and here's why - he's "met" people who'd he never meet any other way like:
- Tony Stubblebine, (twitter) CEO of Crowdvine Social Networks, which is a service that allows anyone to create their own social network (a la Ning)
- Adam Rubel, (twitter) founder of 71Miles, which is a site / blog focused on regional weekend trips (Northern California and Washington DC, right now)
- Dom Sogolla, (twitter), who blogs at Dom.net and has been doing so (as far as I can tell) since’96, and deserves props for having a 3 word domain name as well.
- Todd Mafin, (twitter), one of “Canada’s most influential futurists“, and “podcasting pioneers” — he also hosts a national radio column on CBC radio.
- Chris Wilson, (twitter), who podcasts at Answers For Freelancers
Has he met them in person yet - probably not - but I'm sure if they were visiting Toronto (as I was almost going to do next month) they'd have looked him up.
To some extent, it can be argued that Twitter can even replace emails - when it's to friends that you already have and there's a relationship to begin with. For example, lately, Amy Crehore is Tweeting back and forth with me, and so I don't really need to write her as much - because the conversation is happening in real time.
I've been publishing the latest updates to my twitter feeds (individual and combined on Widgets at http://www.TheAnalyticsGuru.com as well.
How about you - do you use Twitter - has it been helping you?
If you want to follow me on twitter, btw, it's www.twitter.com/webmetricsguru
See you there!
