 've been  using Seesmic on and off since LeWeb3 in Paris last year - and I know that improvements have been made to Seesmic on an almost weekly basis - but this is the first time I've heard of Seesmic making an aquisition - Seesmic Acquires Popular Twitter AIR Client Twhirl according to a post in TechCrunch.

"...Twhirl is considered among the better third party Twitter applications. ReadWriteWeb, for example, just yesterday identified it as the third most used method for posting to the Twittersphere, behind the web and instant messaging, and just in front of Twitterific. It has been downloaded 100,000 or so times."

I would think that Loic want's Twhirl to provide a desktop interface to Seesmic without actually having to run Seesmic (just a guess - I have no knowledge of what his plans really are for Twhirl).  

But wait - the very moment I thought this - as in response to my thought (I'm sure it's more likely in response to the TechCrunch post I cited above - Loic Le Meur posts about  20 reasons why Seesmic acquired Twhirl.

Only 20 reasons? 

1. -Staying in touch with your friends using microblogging is much easier using a client than through your browser
2. -Thwirl is the #1 and coolest Twitter client with more than 100,000 downloads and 7% of all tweets posted per day
3. -Thousands of new users download Twhirl daily

11. -We got in touch entirely through using Twitter and Twhirl... how cool is that? Okay, we also used Skype a bit to close the deal

13. -Marco was already in the process of adding Seesmic support to Twhirl. That is how we got together and thought about him joining in, not the other way round
